Gradall Forklift Parts - Throughout the time when World War II created a shortage of laborers, the famous Gradall excavator was born in the 1940s as the idea of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted workforce because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction company referred to as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available workers so as to do the delicate work of grading and finishing on their interstate projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to build an equipment which would save their company by making the slope grading job easier, more efficient and less manual.
The initial excavator prototype consisted of a device with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a second-hand truck. There was a telescopic cylinder which was used to move the beams backward and forward. This allowed the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to push or pull the dirt. Before long improving the initial design, the brothers built a triangular boom so as to add more strength. Also, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be outfitted with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
Gradall introduced in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their machines ever since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to provide comparable power and high productivity to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the original Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These traditional systems successfully handled grading and finishing work but had a difficult time competing for high productivity jobs.
Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to dig and lift materials. With this series, the models were made with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics that showed noticeable improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed together with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators use an operator in order to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the work at hand. This makes the operator's whole job easier and also saves fuel simultaneously.
As soon as their XL Series hydraulics came onto the market, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of machines designed to deal with excavation, demolition, pavement removal and different industrial tasks. Marketability was further improved with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
